In 2019 the Shawnee Mission North marching band surprised a nearby resident with a visit on her 85th birthday. They walked from school carrying their instruments just like at a football game and played Happy Birthday for her on her lawn. She was overjoyed – “It was a special treat. I never thought I’d have anything like that in my life.”
